Beautiful Rosewood, Art Case Hand Painted “World Renowned Historic” Pleyel Piano. 5’3″ made in 1921 rebuilt and refinished along the way. Recently hand painted gold trim added. Our technicians regulated the action and replaced the bass strings. Playel was one of the original piano makers in Europe. Playel was a French piano manufacturing firm founded by the composer Ignace Pleyel in 1807. In 1815, Pleyel’s son Camille joined him as a business partner. The firm provided pianos to Frédéric Chopin,[1] and also ran a concert hall, the Salle Pleyel, where Chopin performed his first – and last – Paris concerts. Pleyel’s major contribution to piano development was the first use of a metal frame in a piano. Pleyel pianos were the choice of composers such as Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Ravel, de Falla and Stravinsky and of pianists and teachers Alfred Cortot, Philip Manuel and Gavin Williamson. In the 1980s, the Pleyel company bought out the Erard and Gaveau piano companies which also manufactured pianos in France. The Pleyel pianos of today incorporated improvements of these companies and others. In the last two decades, Pleyel Piano was bought by the same family which had bought the Salle Pleyel concert hall in order to revive the name and quality of Pleyel pianos. They built a new factory in the south of France and started making a line of newly designed and improved pianos. Then, in 2008, they decided to downsize the factory and lines of pianos. They moved the factory back to Paris and opened a new factory where they began introducing new pianos designed by famous designers. The red spruce used by Pleyel comes from the Fiemme Valley in Trentino, Italy. After full assembly of a piano, the instrument receives a further 30-40 hours of fine-tuning. Questions? Rare Art Deco Steinway M, 5’7″ semi-gloss ebony. Sleek & elegant, Steinway calls it their “Modern or Contemporary Style” grand piano from the 1940’s art deco era. The original design was created for Steinway in the late 1930s by renowned industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague. This one was made in 1944 and refurbished in October 2015. We just put on new Mapes Bass Strings and new Steinway hammers and shanks were also put on recently. Very few of these were made. This one is in excellent condition inside and out. All Steinway parts. As with so many Art Case pianos they often serve as a furniture piece and don’t get a lot of playing time. Thus we have a beautiful work of art here with a great instrument and very little playing mileage. It has the classic Steinway M sublime tone and very smooth and responsive action. It also has a beautiful set of ivory keys in excellent condition. As with all of our pianos our technicians pulled out the action and went over each of the 88 notes and regulated it to concert stage performance level. This piano will make a great statement in your living room, or perhaps for a collector of fine art and musical intruments. It could easily serve as a cool, jazzy performance space piano. It would also look great in a hotel lobby or elegant restaurant. A jazz club might be a great home for this very cool, hip piano. Comes with a warranty. Questions? Call Sonny at 631 475-8046.
